President Yuschenko Leaves For Azerbaijan To Meet With Officials
President Viktor Yuschenko has left for Azerbaijan on a one-day working visit.
The presidential press service made this statement.
In course of the visit the President will have a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, where they plan to discuss prospects of Ukrainian-Azerbaijani cooperation as at bilateral level, so as within international organizations, specifically within GUAM.
The presidents will discuss economic cooperation between the states, particularly implementation of joint projects in the energy and transport sectors.
Apart from this, V. Yuschenko will take part in a ceremony of opening a monument to Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko in Baku, and visit an artistic event devoted to days of Ukrainian culture being held in Azerbaijan.
Also the Ukrainian president is scheduled to participate in a ceremony of presenting a Bohdan school bus to the Heidar Aliyev charity foundation established by Mekhriban Aliyeva, wife of the Azerbaijani President.
It is planned that V. Yuschenko will also visit a construction site of a new building of the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan.
The Ukrainian delegation to Azerbaijan includes: Foreign Affairs Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko, Culture and Tourism Minister Vasyl Vovkun, head of the President’s office Ruslan Demchenko, deputy head of the Presidential Secretariat Oleksandr Chalyi, and Serhii Bondarchuk, director general of the state company exporting and importing military and special services Ukrspetseksport.
As Ukrainian News reported, on May 22, Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Ukraine; President Yuschenko then pointed to the status of Ukraine - Azerbaijan interrelations raising to a strategic one.
